111th Australasian Soldiers Dardanelles Cenotaph Commemorative Service 2026
A military commemoration ceremony was held on Sunday, 6 September, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm on Kintore Avenue in the city. They played Turkish National Anthem and flew the Turkish flag.
This ceremony has been held on the first Sunday of September each year for the past 16 years. It commemorates the soldiers who departed Adelaide for the Dardanelles. Our Association is invited each year, and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s moving message to the Anzac mothers is read. A wreath is also laid in remembrance.
The ceremony takes place beside the memorial near the RSL building on Kintore Avenue. In previous years, it was open to everyone and attracted more than 100 attendees. In recent years, attendance has been limited to approximately 50–60 invited guests. However, anyone who wishes may stand nearby and observe the ceremony. Our very own Tanya Ayşen Kaplan OAM is invited to lay a wreath as they fly the Turkish flag and play “İstiklâl Marşı” (Independence March – Turkish National Anthem ).
